The Maurice Gusman Concert Hall houses a 600-seat concert
hall, a professional recording studio, and the administrative
offices of the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music. The
Office of the Dean, Undergraduate Studies, Graduate Studies, and
Music Admissions are all located in the main floor. The Gusman
Concert Hall is named in honor of Maurice Gusman, a donor to the
University of Miami. The concert hall is used for large performing forces as
well as smaller ensembles. Each year, over 100 concerts and events
are presented in this hall.
The Gusman recording studio is housed within Gusman Hall.
It is situated on its top two floors, which overlook the concert
hall sound chamber. This studio was originally dedicated in January
of 1975; since its inception, this studio has been completely
rebuilt three times, with three different recording consoles and
other recording equipment.
Several of our music engineering students have assembled a compendium of impulse responses from Gusman Concert Hall. The recordings below were made by Diana Siwiak, Greg Amato, and Jarred Bonaparte using a Neumann dummy-head microphone or spaced-apart omnis and a wooden slapstick as the impulse. Check back later for a sketch of the hall with actual loudspeaker arrangements. Note: seat rows are designated A through O, with A adjacent to the stage. All recordings were sampled at 48 kHz with 24-bit quantization.

First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables
536 Coral Way, Coral Gables FL 33134
We are very honored and fortunate to be able to present four afternoon concerts in the magnificent First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables, located just minutes from the University campus. An 8.1-channel sound reinforcement system will be installed in the space, which seats 1100.
Clarke
Recital Hall
The 147-seat Victor Clarke Recital Hall is used daily for
recitals, concerts, and ensemble performances. Clarke Hall was
designed by noted acoustician Charles Boner, and is equipped with
heavy draperies that can be opened and closed to provide optimal
acoustics for a variety of musical styles. This recital hall is
provided with a small adjacent recording studio and also interfaces
with the larger Weeks Recording Studio. In addition, a RealAudio
server computer is used to stream live concerts from this hall.
Clarke Recital Hall will serve as one of the primary venues for the presentation of papers at ICMC 2004.
Storer Auditorium
The 310-seat Storer Auditorium, part of the McLamore Executive Education Center at the University of Miami School of Business, will host additional paper sessions, panel discussions, posters, and demos.
