overview

activities

There will be weekly listening and reading assignments. I will ask you for brief weekly writings, some of which will be posted to the class newsgroup, some of which will be private. These writings will focus on your responses to the reading and listening, and also to discussions we have in class. I hope that the newsgroup will be come an active forum for discussion, in addition to the classroom. There will be a midterm listening/essay take-home exam, and a final project. The final projects will likely be diverse, depending on the makeup of the class. They will not necessarily focus on "fiddles;" rather, they will reflect your own interests and abilities, and should build on your experiences in the course. I will ask you to prepare a basic website that describes (or perhaps is) your project and make a brief presentation of the site to the class. On your own time, you will then visit other student's sites and write brief responses to me. I will hold a special session or two outside of class to help you get started with basic web authoring and, if necessary, audio production.
