GLOCKENLAGER: Bell camp
From 1941 to 1944 over 100,000 bells were shipped to Hamburg
from various parts of Europe in order to separate their metals for war
purposes.
Dr.Theinhaus
Dr. Erich Thienhaus, a German sound-physicist conducted
research on some of the bells sequestered at Hamburg. With the aid of a magnetic
oscillator and a frequency transformer, he was able to isolate all the partials which
make up the sound of a bell.
By the time the war ended over 150,000 bells had been melted
down by the Central Powers.
