Miriama Young

Miriama Young is a composer, sound artist, and scholar.
She is a Lecturer in Music at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.

She writes music for instrumental and vocal resources, and
also works with live and fixed electronic media.

Miriama collaborates across disciplines with works for radio, and interactive electronic music for dance. She has a particular interest in composing for the voice, in works that range from opera to song cycle to spoken word.

Her scholarly work examines the human voice and recording technology, and
a monograph on this subject, Singing the Body Electric is currently in production.

Originally from New Zealand, Miriama studied at Victoria University of Wellington, pursued [post] graduate work in the United States on a Fulbright Award, and
gained her PhD in Music Composition at Princeton University (2007).
