Peter Velikonja studied oboe with Ray Still (Chicago Symphony) and Elaine Douvas (Metropolitan Opera) and has performed with several major orchestras. He earned a Fulbright Grant and studied at the Folkwang Musikhochschule in Germany. A longstanding interest in experimental music led him, in time, to computers; he was Media Artist at Carnegie Mellon's School of Computer Science, then earned his PhD at Princeton where he worked closely with Paul Lansky. His PhD thesis explores the possibility of evolving populations of computer programs to compose music. Since 1995 he has worked in the software industry at both gee-whiz startups and corporate behemoths; he is the Managing Partner of BumpBump Books LLC, a publisher of mobile book apps, where he programs computers, edits copy, records and edits audio...finally, a dream job come true. He lives in Brooklyn.
